Post-birthday gift card splurge. Total cost? $2.50 after the card. Needed a N64 as mine is suffering from a bad video port and Blaster Master 2 was on the want list for a good while. Nice to cross that one out.

With some DVD trade-ins and B2G1 free sales, this mixture of GameStop and a local chain store finds only cost me $26. Captain America on NES was a permanent resident on my wanted list, but with the explosion of Marvel films and general absurdity of current NES collector pricing, it seemed like a long shot. This cart was listed at $25, but with the trades, it was only a pittance.
Note I don’t generally recommend trading in. Whatever the store in question is actually charging on their floor, that’s what you can generally get by doing a little online footwork. However, when you begin building up a lot of worthless titles from buying in lots and such (DVDs like Mortal Kombat Annihilation, games like Swing Away Golf PS2), dumping them on a store can be beneficial for a short burst cash infusion for that rare gem you’ve been looking for.
Combination estate sale and thrift store find, around $55 for all. There was more, including strategy guides, magazines, and appreciate cables for the system’s which didn’t fit in the image.
This was also the first time I’ve picked over the house of a hoarder. Those systems underwent about three hours of restoration to get them to that point.
That was the N64 before. It wasn’t pretty.
A varied lot of titles from thrift and local game stores, $35 dollars total. Primal Rage is just the box as I draw nearer to a compete boxed 32X set.
A note on Tecmo NBA: While the game itself is common, not so common is the poster inside which lists all of the teams and their strengths. It’s surprisingly hard to find, and that goes double for the SNES version. It’s not valuable, merely uncommon.
I mentioned previously that colored N64 controllers and consoles are jumping in value, but the N64 is aiming to be the next “big one.” Nintendo’s stubborn resistance to plastic cases means boxes were often pitched, and you can see the value bump from the current run of NES and SNES boxed games. While sports entries remain worthless, semi rare and rare N64 titles in box can still be snagged for cheap before a price spike happens. If collecting stays hot, this is the next nostalgia rush. Get boxed titles NOW as you find them.
Haul from Temperance Days in Michigan. Total around $25. I highly recommend picking up colored, “Play it Loud” N64 controllers/systems when cheap. They’re showing a strong rise in value. The jungle green controller should bring between $20-$30. Other colors go higher. N64 items in general are beginning to pick up value as well.
From July 26th, a $45 haul from various local resale shops.
