Shocking to think this is the first actual retro console find posted here, but it’s true. It’s a tough market out there. These types of finds used to be weekly, and common enough that I’d pass them by. This lot (plus a sizable stack of composite cables I won’t bore you with) came to $13 for everything, via some Michigan garage sales.

Garage sales finds from the weekend. Which was nothing. Despite visiting 70+ sales, this was the result.
Out of all of the advice possible surrounding game collecting, this image is the most important. Yes, seeing all of those awesome finds around the Web makes things look easy, but this is often the reality. Collecting is about patience. Don’t be discouraged when you come home without a score. It happens more often than mega finds, or even a stack of commons.
The best rule is to consider the phrase, “You never know.” That one extra garage sale? It may be the best thing ever, or it may be a waste of time, but you never know until you do. Keep checking, and games will come. Perseverance is everything.
