Gettin’ the Bongo On

Local thrift store haul, totaling $15. Multi-disc PS1 releases are notorious for missing discs. The more discs, the higher the risk of one being lost, logically. Always make sure they’re all in the case before buying by the disc indicator on the back of the case. X-Files contains four.

N64 Boxed Titles on the Rise

I mentioned previously that colored N64 controllers and consoles are jumping in value, but the N64 is aiming to be the next “big one.” Nintendo’s stubborn resistance to plastic cases means boxes were often pitched, and you can see the value bump from the current run of NES and SNES boxed games. While sports entries remain worthless, semi rare and rare N64 titles in box can still be snagged for cheap before a price spike happens. If collecting stays hot, this is the next nostalgia rush. Get boxed titles NOW as you find them.

Getting (Way) Ahead of the Vita Rush

“This isn’t retro!” No, but collecting is about more than retro. It’s also about getting ahead of trends. Sony’s Vita is struggling, and with the system split on physical/digital sales, retail copies of niche titles carry a small market share. Dragon’s Crown joins titles like Persona (and others) that could gain a following, and thus value. Something like Muramasa Rebirth? Maybe not since it saw release on Wii. It’s all speculative, but if you can score them cheap, jump on distinctly Japanese titles, fighters, classic shooters, and RPGs especially.

Discovering a Disney/Capcom NES Classic

Scored this from Twitter. Someone offered it for a low price ($120) which I quickly snapped up. I then sold the box for $90 on eBay, which lowered my cart cost to under $40 after fees.

Skewing Modern

Haul from Temperance Days in Michigan. Total around $25. I highly recommend picking up colored, “Play it Loud” N64 controllers/systems when cheap. They’re showing a strong rise in value. The jungle green controller should bring between $20-$30. Other colors go higher. N64 items in general are beginning to pick up value as well.

Sealed GBA Find

Survivor Series on Game Boy Advance is unusually rare. It underwent a value spike a year ago (or thereabouts) which has since waned. But, it remains a tough score in the wild, and this sealed copy for $7 from a local game store was a smart buy.
